Суммы, резервируемые в счетах компании из ее прибылей для покрытия определенных обязательств (даже если точный размер выплат не известен) или компенсации уменьшившейся стоимости актива. Обычно резервы предназначаются для покрытия безнадежных долгов (см.: provision for bad debts (резерв для покрытия безнадежных долгов)), для амортизации (см.: provision for depreciation (амортизационный резерв)), а также для выплат по накопившимся обязательствам. В соответствии с Законом Великобритании о компаниях 1981 г. в счетах компании с ограниченной ответственностью должны делаться примечания, объясняющие каждый материальный резерв.
